Welcome!
About Me
Hi, I’m Abby Moore, pronouns she/her. Thank you for visiting my page. I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), with experience providing psychotherapy to adults of all ages. My work is psychodynamic, relational, LGBTQIA+ affirming, and anti-oppressive. My style is collaborative, strengths-based, affirmative, culturally responsive, and trauma informed. In my approach to psychotherapy my lens is grounded in the understanding that life experiences and ways of navigating distress are dependent on one’s identities, internal and external environments, and social and cultural ecosystems.
Education and Experience
I am a graduate of the Smith College School for Social Work, and am currently completing my PhD in Social Work at Smith. I have worked in the mental health field for over 15 years. Before entering private practice, I worked in a range of diverse environments. My experience includes work at Boston inpatient psychiatry at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, the Simmons College Counseling Center, the Brattleboro Retreat in Vermont, community mental health centers, residential treatment, clinics, and hospices throughout New England.
My Practice
I utilize a breadth of relationally informed psychodynamic approaches to support clients. Although my therapeutic style is eclectic, integrative, and flexible, it is rooted in a psychodynamic theoretical orientation with a trauma informed lens. My treatment approach is also grounded in relational and attachment theories and framed by social justice. As a social worker I understand the individual through a person-in-environment perspective, and I explore with clients the various forces that shape experiences. I work with clients to expand insight and explore the self and the self in connection with others. When appropriate, the therapy I offer also incorporates ideas and practices from, EMDR, CBT, DBT, ACT, MI, and trauma sensitive mindfulness.
This is my office, though currently due to covid 19 I am conducting sessions via secure telehealth unless there is a clinical need for office visits. Please let me know any sensory accommodations that will help make our video appointments accessible for you.

Getting Started
Before the First Appointment
Before we schedule an initial appointment, you'll be asked to complete a set of forms, as well as provide basic demographic and billing/insurance information. We will address logistical matters of therapy, including scheduling and insurance/payment issues, to ensure that I have a weekly time slot available that meets your needs, and to clarify any questions about therapy costs, etc. If we mutually agree upon scheduling and cost, we’ll schedule an initial appointment.
Therapy with me can be a brief set of appointments to focus on a single issue, or a longer term collaboration, depending on your needs.
If you're interested in scheduling an appointment, please contact me by email (abbymoorelicsw at gmail dot com).
Getting Started With Therapy
In our first session I hope to learn a bit about what you are looking for in therapy, and to allow both of us to get a sense for whether we might work well together. I hope to gain an understanding of your current needs, as well as various aspects of your history/background, and some of your goals for treatment. If it doesn’t seem a good fit, I will suggest another therapist who might be a better fit for your needs.
Payment
You can pay for a therapy session with health insurance or out of pocket. If using insurance to pay for sessions we will confirm before scheduling your initial session whether I take your insurance as well as your copay amount and deductible if applicable.
